PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for deoxidizing sponge platinum by which sponge platinum composed of platinum of 2 mm grain size, minimal in an undissolved residue at aqua regia dissolution and increased in dissolution rate can be efficiently and safely produced. PSOLUTION: In the method for deoxidizing the sponge platinum, the platinum is previously ground coarsely at the removal of oxygen from the sponge platinum and held at 600 to 800C in a hydrogen reduction furnace to improve dissolution rate at the aqua regia dissolution of the recovered sponge platinum and decrease the undissolved residue at the aqua regia dissolution.
