A process for recovering nickel and cobalt from nickel oxide ore by stacking leaching and / or leaching in the atmosphere, involving the various stages of mixing a sulfur reducing agent selected from a non copper reducing agent with a nickel oxide ore; 1. Leach the reducing / mineral mixture with the acid leach solution to produce a main leach solution, including nickel, cobalt, iron mainly in the form of iron and other soluble acid impurities; and recover nickel and cobalt from the main leach solution.
