ALTERNATE TEST METHOD FOR RF CABLE TESTING TO AVOID LONG TEST CABLES

A method is provided for measuring insertion loss in cables. The method comprises the steps of measuring a first insertion loss IL₁₂ of a first circuit path including the series connection of a first cable and a second cable, measuring a second insertion loss IL₂₃ of a second circuit path including the series connection of the second cable and a third cable, measuring a third insertion loss IL₁₃ of a third circuit path including the series connection of the first cable and the third cable, and calculating an insertion loss of three or more cables using the formulas: $$ {\mathrm{IL}}_1=\frac{{\mathrm{IL}}_{12}-{\mathrm{IL}}_{23}+{\mathrm{IL}}_{13}}{2}$$$$ {\mathrm{IL}}_3={\mathrm{IL}}_{13}-{\mathrm{IL}}_1$$$$ {\mathrm{IL}}_2={\mathrm{IL}}_{23}-{\mathrm{IL}}_3$$$$ {\mathrm{IL}}_n={\mathrm{IL}}_{3n}-{\mathrm{IL}}_3$$Where n is the number of cables to be tested.
