Present invention finds new uses of Hibiscus rosa sinensis on cognitive dysfunction in Experimental animals which is evaluated by using elevated plus maze and passive avoidance test serve as extroceptive behavioural models where as scopolamine and ageing induced amnesia serve as introceptive model. Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and a biological system"s ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or easily repair the resulting damage. In humans, oxidative stress is involved in many diseases, such as atherosclerosis, Parkinson"s disease and Alzheimer"s disease, cancer, stroke. Scopolamine is also responsible for production oxidative stress at dose of lmg/kg i.p, Pretreatment of ethyl acetate soluble fraction of methanolic extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis mitigated the oxidative stress. Cholinergic pathway plays important role in case of memory process, decline in acetylcholine concentration at the cholinergic neurons leads to memory impairment. Ethyl acetate soluble fraction of methanolic extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis increased availability of acetylcholine at synaptic cleft by cholinesterase inhibition mechanism.
