The present invention refers to a biodegradable composition based on collagen protein with phenol retanning agents for using in the retanning process as leather filler, which is obtained by means of hydrolyzation of the animal protein resulting from the leather wet white, which active matter is characterised in that it is chromium-free, biodegradable and has polypeptides and aromatic sulfonates in the chemical composition thereof. The invention is directed to the tanning industrial field, mainly to the retanning process. The main function of said protein is to fill the empty spaces remaining in the hide after performing the Rivera phase, the composition of the present invention filling the loosened parts, thus providing tightness and refinement to the grain part of the hide, a suitable grain roundness, more white leathers and a suitable grain break, the residue thereof being biodegradable and chromium-free, thereby being environmentally friendly.
