A tool for laying floorboards that expans to press the boards together with a reversable head

A tool (110) for pressing together floorboards (112a) is disclosed. The tool (110) has a first half on which there is a foot portion (212) for abutting and pressing against an abutment surface such as a wall. A second half of the tool has a head (122) for abutting and pressing against the last of the floorboards (112a) to be laid. The second half is movable relative to the first half for exerting force on the floorboards (112a). To enable the tool (110) to still be used even when the edge of the fitted floorboards (112a) is closer to the abutment surface than the minimum length of the tool (110), the head portion (122) is reversed allowing it to push against the floorboard (112a) at a point between the ends of the tool (110). The motive power for applying the force may be pneumatic or hydraulic for example.
