A grid tee (10) and method of making the same comprising an elongated sheet metal strip (19) folded on itself to integrally form a lower double wall flange (11), a hollow upper reinforcing bulb (12), and a web (13) extending upwardly between the flange and bulb. The flange (11) lies in a generally horizontal plane, being perpendicular to the generally vertical web (13), and has opposed spaced apart parallel edges (26) that extend longitudinally. The strip has two longitudinally extending marginal edge zones that are generally vertically disposed and fixed at least at longitudinally spaced locations (47, 46) to a central area of the strip to form a double web layer area. The marginal edge zones of the strip are vertically spaced from one another so that a portion of the central area of the strip that forms a part of the web (13) is a single exclusive layer (39).
