A process for the preparation of 3-(5-R-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a]quinoline)propenoic acids involves dissolution of corresponding hydrazine-derived heterocycles in organic solvent, cyclization of compound by boiling in reaction mixture, filtration of residue, reprecipitation of the compound prepared. The dissolution of equivalent amounts of corresponding 2-hydrazinoquinoline and maleic acid anhydride is carried out in acetic acid, boiling is carried out for 2±0.1 hours, and reprecipitation of compound is performed from aqueous solution of sodium carbonate with further acidifying with 30% chloride acid solution up to pH=4.
