THE PROTEIN SERUM AMYLOID P COMPONENT (SAP, SAMP) AS A FORECASTING AND DIAGNOSIS MARKER FOR PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS OF TRISOMY 21 (DOWN SYNDROME)

In the peripheral blood of pregnant women carrying fetuses with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) we report that the protein Serum amyloid P-component (SAP, SAMP, SwissProt No: P02473) appears quantitative and/or qualitative differences compared to the peripheral blood of women carrying chromosomally normal fetus. Thus, that protein could be a target and used as marker for the pranatal prognosis and/or diagnosis of Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) with non-invasive techniques or methods.
