Process for the purification of alkanes from its azeotropic mixture with ethanol using an ionic liquid as solvent.; The aim of the present invention is obtaining a high purity alkane it is in the azeotropic mixtures of ethanol with alkanes; said mixtures are present in large amounts in petrochemical industry. In this invention to ionic liquids it is proposed as solvents in a process of liquid-liquid extraction. The solvent selected is the ionic liquid 1,3-dimetilimidazolium methyl sulfate. The purification process proposed consists of a step of liquid-liquid continuous extraction; followed by a step of recovering the solvent for reuse in the extraction column.
