A process for preparing an immunogenic factor of a pathogenic bacteria comprising the steps of: a) cultivating Corynebacterium diphtheriae in a medium comprising at least 20% by dry weight of a protein source material not animal, and which does not it comprises proteinaceous material of animal origin, in which the proteinaceous material of non-animal origin is a yeast extract; b) purifying the immunogenic factor from the medium.
