illumination surgical system of variable angle, comprising: a light source (12) for providing a light beam; an optical cable (14), optically coupled to the light source for receiving and transmitting the light beam; a handpiece (10), operably coupled to the optical cable; an optical fiber (22) operably coupled to the handpiece, the optical fiber being coupled is optically to the optical cable to receive and transmit the light beam; an optical assembly (200) optically coupled to a distal end of the optical fiber to receive the light beam and providing the light beam to illuminate an area, preferably a surgical site; a cannula (16), operably coupled to the handpiece and optical assembly, for housing and directing the optical assembly in order to illuminate the area; wherein the optical assembly (200) comprises a parabolic concentrator cone compound ( "CPC") nested comprising a cone element CPC male (250) nested within a cone element CPC female (252), the cone element being CPC male and cone member CPC female in a movable relationship with respect to each other, and characterized by means (40) adapted to adjust the angle of illumination by changing the relative positions between the cone member CPC male (250) and cone element CPC female (252), the angular spread of light (272) emitted by the optical assembly (200) by the proximity of the cone element CPC female (252) to cone element CPC male (250) being determined.
