A method for recovering valuable metals from a sulphide concentrate containing several valuable metals, in which the valuable metal in addition to copper is one of the group zinc, nickel, lead and cobalt, wherein the concentrate is leached first in means sulfated in oxidizing conditions in order to recover a valuable metal other than copper, so that copper concentrate remains mostly undissolved and is recovered in chloride-based leaching.
