Process for the preparation of biodegradable polymer particles which comprises: a) providing a cell into which has been incorporated at least one inducible gene, wherein the gene encodes a protein which controls the size of the polymer particle; and in which it has been incorporated in the body, further, another gene encoding a polymer synthase; and wherein the at least one polymer synthase is a fusion protein comprising a biologically active protein, or wherein the at least one polymer synthase is a fusion protein capable of binding a biologically active substance, and either directly or via a coupling reagent, or wherein the at least one polymer synthase is a modified protein also is capable of binding a biologically active substance, either directly or through a reactive coupling; b) culturing the cell under inducing at least one inducible gene, mentioned in the previous point a), in a culture medium under conditions suitable for the preparation of biodegradable polymer particles by the cell conditions.
