An unheading and containment system for unheading and heading a pressurevessel includes an unheading apparatus for removing a cover from a pressurevessel in an unheading operation and a modular enclosure mechanism tosunstantially enclose the cover during the unheading operation. The unheadingapparatus includes a cover removably secured to the pressure vessel, a lockplate removably secured to the pressure vessel, a lock plate cooperating withthe cover removably secured to the pressure vessel, a lock plate cooperatingwith the cover, and a cover moving mechanism capable of moving the coververtically and laterally.
