COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING BONE MARROW CELLS TOGETHER WITH DEMINERALIZED AND/OR MINERALIZED BONE MATRIX AND THEIR USE IN BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION

A composition comprising bone marrow cells (BMC) and demineralized bone matrix(DBM) and/or mineralized bone matrix (MBM), optionally comprising bonemorphogenetic protein (BMP), particularly for use in bone marrowtransplantation, into bone marrow cavity or into extraskeletal sites, andmethods of transplantation/implantation thereof. The composition and methodsof the invention enable restoring and/or enhancing the formation ofhematopoietic microenvironment originating from the transplanted BMC, and areuseful in the treatment of hematopoietic disorders, such as deficiency of stemcells and/or their products, genetic conditions resulting in abnormal stemcells and/or products, or hematopoietic disorders of malignant or non-malignant origin. The composition and method of the invention may also be usedfor the induction of graft tolerance, for the prevention of graft-v.-hostdisease. It is mostly important that the compositions and methods of theinvention may be applied for the treatment of diseases affecting primarily orsecondarily the stromal microenvironment that supports and regulateshematopoiesis. Further provided is a kit for transplantation into a mammal ofBMC in admixture with DBM and/or MBM.
