A design support apparatus includes a parameter setgeneration unit configured to obtain a plurality of types ofparameters and sequentially generates parameter sets whilesequentially changing each parameter, a design object shapedata generation unit configured to generate design objectshape data based on the parameter set and initial shape datarepresenting an initial shape of the design object shape, ageometric penalty function value calculation unit configuredto calculate a geometric penalty function value indicatingsuitability of geometric characteristics of the designobject shape based on the design object shape data, anobjective function calculation control unit configured todetermine whether or not the parameter set is used tocalculate an objective function based on the geometricpenalty function value and an optimal value of the objectivefunction, and an objective function calculation unitconfigured to calculate the objective function based on theparameter set.
