Disclosed is a nickel-cobalt-manganese compound particle powder, which has a volume-average particle diameter (D50) of secondary particles of 3.0-25.0 µm, and wherein the volume-average particle diameter (D50) and the half width (W) of the peak in the volume-based particle size distribution of the secondary particles satisfy the following relation: W = 0.4 × D50. The nickel-cobalt-manganese compound particle powder can be obtained by a precipitation reaction wherein a solution containing a metal salt and an alkaline solution are dropped into an alkaline solution at the same time for neutralization. The nickel-cobalt-manganese compound particle powder has a uniform particle size and contains little fine powder, while having high crystallinity and large primary particles. Consequently, the nickel-cobalt-manganese compound particle powder is useful as a precursor of a positive electrode active material that is used for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
