The present invention relates to oligonucleotide sequences which can be used as biomarkers, e.g., for research and diagnostic applications, such as for predicting responsiveness of rectal cancers to preoperative radiochemotherapy. More particularly, the invention relates to a method for predicting the responsiveness of a rectal carcinoma to radiochemotherapy, a method for identifying a candidate for an agent that enhances the responsiveness of a rectal carcinoma to radiochemotherapy, and a use of a kit for said methods.
