The invention discloses a bidirectional authentication method and system based on symmetrical encryption algorithm. The method includes: 1) a collision process is accomplished together by a reader (READER), an electronic tag (TAG) and an electronic tag application system database (DB); 2) a certificate authentication request packet is constructed and sent to an authentication server (AS) by the DB; 3) a certificate authentication response packet is sent to the DB; 4) a challenge information packet is sent to the READER; 5) an authentication request packet is sent to the TAG; 6) an authentication response packet is sent to the READER; 7) an identity request packet is sent to the DB; 8) an identity response packet is sent to the READER. The invention can realize the bidirectional authentication method and system based on symmetrical encryption algorithm, in which no safety link between the database and the electronic tag is needed, bidirectional authentication can be processed and performances of devices can be utilized rationally.
