The present invention discloses a method and device for handling a failure of service bearer establishment in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. The method includes that: an Evolved Packet Core Network (EPC) sends an activate Evolved Packet System (EPS) bearer context request message to a user equipment (UE) via an evolved Node-B (eNB), and waits for receiving an activate EPS bearer context response message returned by the UE in a predetermined period; when the number of times for sending activate EPS bearer context request message reaches the preset value and the EPS still does not receive the activate EPS bearer context response message returned by the UE, the EPC initiates an EPS bearer release procedure, and notifies the UE and eNB to release the EPS bearer. With the application of the present invention, the problem of bearer inconsistency among the UE, the eNB and the EPC can be avoided effectively.
