Face image photographing apparatus and face image photographing method

A face image photographing apparatus includes photographing means (3) for photographing at least a face image of a person (1). Detecting means (23a, 23b) detect the position of the pupils based upon the photographed face image and determining means (23a, 23b) determine whether the eyes are open based upon the detected pupil position. Retry control means (23a, 23b) repeat the face image photographing process by the photographing means, the pupil position detecting process by the detecting means and the determining process by the determining means when the determining means determines that at least one of the eyes is not open. Image output means (25, 31) output the face image photographed by the photographing means (3) as a photographed image or as a printed image, when the determining means determines that the eyes are open. Methods for photographing a face image using such an apparatus are also described.
