A switch off breaker (21, 41), a switch on-off breaker, a switch on-off system, and a switch off method for an ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternating current transmission line (30). The switch off method has only the step of switching off the switch off breaker composed of a main switch (K11, K21). The switch off breaker gets rid off the trade prejudice that the switch off breaker has to apply a resistance to restrain the switch off overvoltage by being provided only with a switch on resistance (RH1, RH2) without using the switch on resistance as the common resistance or being provided with a switch off resistance additionally. Further, the provided switch on-off system reduces the construction cost and increases the reliability of the device and the working reliability of the whole UHV alternating current transmission system.
