Selection of transmission media in an Ad-Hoc Network based upon approximate predicted information utility

A method of managing traffic in an ad hoc network is disclosed. The method comprises measuring local data traffic levels on at least one network resource and establishing criteria for different transmission media. The method further comprises evaluating a microutility of a data sample and transmitting the data sample through one or more media, wherein the selection of the media is based upon evaluation of the microutility against the criteria.
