Provided is an identification system for inter-virtual-server communication, wherein communication can be conducted between virtual machines even under an environment wherein IP addresses of the virtual machines overlap, and wherein a network administrator can determine the communication flow state in real time. Specifically, a physical server assigns virtual machine IDs to virtual servers under the management thereof and, when carrying out inter-virtual-machine communication over the network, assigns receiving side and transmitting side virtual machine IDs to the bit spaces of transmission packets, in the form of TCP/IP packets, and transmits the transmission packets over the network. A physical switch exists on the network, which connects the physical servers, identifies transmission packets even under an environment wherein the IP addresses of the individual virtual machines overlap on the network, on the basis of virtual machine IDs contained in the bit space of the transmission packet other than the bit space for data, and collects information indicating the network state.
