TWO AXIS GROUND BASED SOLAR TRACKING SYSTEM FOR LARGE-SCALE SOLAR COLLECTORS

A solar tracking system for large-scale solar collectors is provided which includes a superstructure and a base structure. The superstructure includes a plurality of solar collection devices, such as photovoltaic solar panels. These solar collection devices pivot along a horizontal axis. The underside of the superstructure is equipped with a plurality of spaced-apart wheels which ride on one or more circular rails that are concentric to a central hub, and are supported by a plurality of spaced-apart foundation posts extending up from the ground. The wheels from the superstructure ride along the upper edge of the circular rails and allow the superstructure to rotate about the central hub. A control system is provided which controls the rotation of the solar collection devices on the collector supports, and rotates the superstructure to optimize the positioning of the large-scale solar collectors thereby maximizing the solar energy collected.
