A photoacoustic wave measuring apparatus includes a light source (11,21) for radiating a light (12,23) having a wavelength component in wavelength areas, light filters (25,26,27,28) arranged in a light path from the light source (11,21) to a subject and each to shut off or transmit the light in one of the wavelength areas, a detector (17) for detecting an acoustic wave (16) generated by the radiation, a controller (18) for generating conditions having different combinations of the wavelength components contained in the light (12, 23), and a signal processor (19) for calculating an optical absorption coefficient of the subject (13) for the light in each wavelength area based on a pressure of the acoustic wave (16) detected under each of the conditions and a strength of the radiated light for each wavelength area under conditions.
