Disclosed herein is an apparatus for recognizing a security code having an Electromagnetic Band-Gap (EBG) pattern. A voltage control oscillator sequentially generates one or more incident signals having various frequencies. A power divider divides the power of each of the incident signals into halves, and outputs a first incident signal and a second incident signal. A waveguide enables the first incident signal to be incident on the EBG pattern, and receives a reflected signal reflected from the EBG pattern. A phase detector detects the phase difference between the reflected signal and the second incident signal, and generates and outputs phase data based on the results of the detection. A data control unit determines whether the security code having the EBG pattern is recognized using the phase data, and controls the voltage control oscillator so that the voltage control oscillator can sequentially generate the incident signal.
