The invention relates to a method for determining the creep behavior of a mechanically stressed component (12) under operating conditions, wherein a solution is created which enables a rapid and reliable assessment of the state of the component. The method comprises the following steps: Recording a parameter (practical value) representing the creep of the component (12) at at least one point in time, determining a reference parameter (theoretical expected value) of the parameter representing the creep at the respective point in time by means of a mathematical model expressing the creep of the component (12), modifying the mathematical model in dependence on a deviation of the parameter from the reference parameter and future determination of an expected value (future theoretical expected value) of the parameter at a predefinable point in time by means of the modified mathematical model. The invention further relates to a corresponding device (14).
