PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF GLASS FIBER FABRIC HAVING SILICA MICROPARTICLES ADHERED THEREON, GLASS FIBER FABRIC HAVING SILICA MICROPARTICLES ADHERED THEREON, AND FIBER-REINFORCED MOLDED RESIN ARTICLE
PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF GLASS FIBER FABRIC HAVING SILICA MICROPARTICLES ADHERED THEREON, GLASS FIBER FABRIC HAVING SILICA MICROPARTICLES ADHERED THEREON, AND FIBER-REINFORCED MOLDED RESIN ARTICLE
Disclosed is a process for producing a glass fiber fabric having good smoothness and an excellent property of being impregnated with a resin. In a weaving step, glass fiber threads are weaved to produce a glass fiber fabric. In an adhesion step, the glass fiber fabric is immersed in an aqueous dispersion of silica microparticles to cause the silica microparticles to be adhered onto the surfaces of glass filaments in the glass fiber fabric, thereby producing a fabric having the silica microparticles adhered thereon. In a filamentization step, the fabric having the silica microparticles adhered thereon is filamentized to produce a filamentized fabric in which the widths of warp threads and crosswise threads of the silica-microparticle-adhered fabric are increased. In a heating step, the filamentized fabric is heated by means of a heating furnace or the like to thermally fuse a portion or all of the silica microparticles adhered on the filamentized fabric onto the surfaces of the glass filaments. In this manner, a glass fiber fabric having silica microparticles adhered thereon can be produced.
