The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a cathode active material for a secondary battery including a metal composite oxide, and to a cathode active material for a second battery including a metal composite oxide manufactured by the method. The cathode active material for a second battery including a metal composite oxide manufactured according to the present invention is a metal composite oxide consisting of Li, Ni, Co, and Mn, and satisfies the following chemical formula 1: [Chemical Formula 1] Li(1+a)NixCo[(1-a)(1-y)-x]Mn[a+(1-a)y] MdO(a+2) (where, 0.01≤a≤0.30, 0.01≤x≤0.6, 0.01≤y≤0.8, M is Al, Mg, Cr, Fe, V, and/or Ti, and 0≤d≤0.05.)
