SEAL AND SEAL ARRANGEMENT FOR CONFINING LEAKAGE FLOWS BETWEEN ADJACENT COMPONENTS OF TURBO-MASCHINES, IN PARTICULAR GAS TURBINES

A seal for confining leakage flows between adjacent components (9, 20), in particular of a gas turbine, has an elastically deformable thin-walled seal element (1) and a thin-walled covering element (13) which is U-shaped in cross section and which, between the limbs (15) and the base (14) thereof, partially holds the seal element (1). In the seal arrangement which has the seal, the limbs (15) of the covering element (13) are arranged between two opposite walls (28) of the other component (9) so as to be movable relative to said walls (28) which, together with the sealing surface (8) of the other component (9), form a groove (27) which is U-shaped in cross section. Forces acting laterally on the seal are absorbed by the covering element (13) and are dissipated via the limbs (15) into the other component (9), such that the integrity of the seal is maintained even in the event of lateral forces.
