PURPOSE: A communication device and a method for controlling the communication device are provided to easily perform a communication parameter setting even in a communication device that can operate in a base station mode and a slave station mode.;CONSTITUTION: A control unit(201) controls an entire wireless communication device by executing a control program stored in a storage unit(202). The storage unit stores the control program executed by the control unit and various pieces of information, such as the communication parameters. Various operations are performed by the control unit by executing the control program stored in the storage unit. A wireless communication processing unit(203) performs wireless communications. An antenna(204) is connected to an antenna control unit(205). A display unit(206) performs various display functions, such as outputting visibly recognizable information like an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) or an LED(Light Emitting Diode) or outputting a sound like a speaker. The operation unit includes a setting button for generating a trigger for starting communication parameter automatic setting and an operation button for performing entry of various pieces of information. The control unit detects an operation of the setting button by an operation of the operation unit through the user and starts a communication parameter setting operation.
