PURPOSE: An augmented reality contents providing system and a method for providing the contents to offer local information through a portable terminal using augmented reality are provided to conveniently search information by matching augmented contents with the real time image taken by a user.;CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal(10) offers the location information of user and the image inputted through the image sensor through network to the server(100). The mobile terminal matches the augmented reality contents offered from the server and the real-time video inputted through the image sensor. The server searches the contents correspond with the image. The server offers the augmented reality contents to the mobile terminal.
