PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for processing a signal in a codebook-based MIMO relay system are provided to improve the reception performance in the feedback amount as same as the existing feedback amount. CONSTITUTION: If data are received from a base station, an RS(Relay Station) having plural antennas estimates the state of a channel connected to the base station through the data(S310). The relay station predicts parameters which indicate the performance of an estimated channel through an estimated channel state(S312). The relay station calculates a pre-processing matrix index through the use of measured channel performance parameters(S314), and transmits the pre-processing matrix index to the base station and the terminal(S316).
