PURPOSE: A method for performing motion estimation using an adaptive search range based on a full search block matching algorithm is provided to vary a seek area according to size and direction of predicted motion vector, thereby reducing operation quantity. CONSTITUTION: Distribution of motion vector for an arbitrary image is researched(S100). Data of the distribution of the motion vector is generated according to a predicted motion vector(S200). A distribution character of the motion vector of the image is drawn according to the predicted motion vector by the data(S300). A search area setting algorithm is set in order to adaptively varied seek area in macro block of the image according to the distribution character(S400).
