PURPOSE: A system and a method for controlling the operation of a crane to prevent collision between the crane and a vehicle are provided to enable the operation and the stop of a crane and a vehicle to be rapidly controlled in a work area. CONSTITUTION: A system for controlling the operation of a crane comprises a height sensor(100), a direction sensor(200), an entrance unit controller(300), a crane controller(400) and a server(500). The height sensor generates a height sensing signal when a vehicle passes the entrance unit at a predetermined height. The direction sensor generates a vehicle movement direction sensing signal when the vehicle passes the entrance unit. The entrance unit controller tracks the vehicle height in each region using the height sensing signal and the vehicle movement direction sensing signal and controls the opening/closing operation of the entrance unit according to the tracked height when the crane passes the entrance unit.
