PURPOSE: A method for detecting a primary user in a cognitive radio system is provided to improve the channel usage by providing primary user detecting method without generating a quiet period. CONSTITUTION: A sampling stage collects samples of received signal(s10). In a channel estimation stage, channel coefficient is calculated using the collected sample signal and acknowledged pilot sequence(s20). In a pilot delete stage, pilot interference are eliminated from the received signal sample(s30). In a decision making stage, the existence of a priority user is decided by comparing statistics and base value(s40).
