PURPOSE: System and method for preventing the misdiagnosis of a misfire are provided to prevent the misdiagnosis of a misfire due to the oscillation of a segment since conditions for determining the misfire are corrected by detecting the change magnitude of segment adaptation values.;CONSTITUTION: A system for preventing the misdiagnosis of a misfire comprises an engine-roughness calculating unit(100), a parameter calculating unit(200), and a compensating unit(300). The engine-roughness calculating unit refers to a signal received from a crank sensor in the fuel cut-off state of a vehicle. The engine-roughness calculating unit performs adaptation for measuring the angular velocity of a crank shaft. The engine-roughness calculating unit calculates engine roughness. The parameter calculating unit monitors the oscillation state of a segment according to the calculated engine-roughness.
