The present invention provides a method for reducing power consumption in a DBDM terminal and a DBDM terminal for the same. The dual band dual mode (DBDM) terminal includes a modem unit including a first modem to enable communication with a WiBro network and a second modem to enable communication with a WCDMA network, a battery for supplying power to the modem unit; When the battery power is lower than a power threshold, the first modem enters a low power mode (LPM) mode that minimizes power consumption by disabling a radio frequency (RF) component included in a modem. And receiving information indicating that a WiBro network cell is present from a WCDMA network, and including a connection manager to enter the first modem into an active mode that enables the RF component. According to the present invention, power consumption can be reduced by selectively activating two modems in the terminal according to the power level of the battery in the DBDM terminal.
