The present invention relates to a noble metal catalyst in which a Group VIIIB precious metal element on a standard periodic table is supported on a pseudohydrotalcite carrier, a method for preparing the noble metal catalyst, and dehydration and hydrogenation of glycerol using the noble metal catalyst. -A method of selectively preparing propanediol. Useful as a process catalyst for the conversion to 2-propanediol.
