PURPOSE: A target modeling method of an infrared ray image is provided to effectively detect a moving and expanding target and a miniature target by modeling an infrared ray image through a third polynomial. CONSTITUTION: An area which is portioned through a NXN division of an infrared ray image is set as a facet area(S21). Brightness distribution of each facet area is expressed through a facet modeling of a three-dimensional polynomial type having a facet coefficient(S22). The 3D polynomial is converted as a discrete orthogonal polynomial(S23). An orthogonal coefficient of a discrete orthogonal polynomial is calculated(S24). The calculated orthogonal coefficient is used as a facet coefficient(S25).
