Surface-modified metal oxide sol, preparation method thereof, and coating composition comprising the metal oxide sol

A surface-modified metal oxide sol is provided to have excellent compatibility with a UV curable binder compound, to exhibit good dispersibility in a coating composition, and to form a coating film having superior transparency. A method for preparing a surface-modified metal oxide sol includes the steps of: (a) adding a second disperse solvent to a metal oxide sol comprising a first disperse solvent, and distilling out the first disperse solvent to change the disperse solvent; (b) adding an organic substituent to the metal oxide sol in which the disperse solvent was changed, and performing a reaction of the metal oxide and organic substituent to modify the surfaces of the metal oxide particles. Further, the first disperse solvent is water, ethanol and a mixture thereof.
