PURPOSE: A lead shape abnormality detection device and a detection method for a lead forming process are provided to detect a defect in a forming process and a lead cut process by adding a process of detecting the deformation of the lead. CONSTITUTION: A perform die and perform punch forms a first bend portion(2) on a lead being exposed from a package. The form die and form punch forms the first bend portion and a second bend portion(4). A lead cut apparatus cuts the end of a lead based on a design rule. A camera unit takes a picture of the package which is passed through a detection die and punch. A controller determines whether length(L1,L2) is within a predetermined value.
