FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of partially halogenated propane or partially fluorinated butane, involving: reaction of partially fluorinated methane, which is selected from a group comprising CH2F2 to CH3F, with fluoro-olefin, which is selected from a group comprising CF2=CF2, ClFC=CF2 and CF3CF2=CF2, in the presence of a catalyst - modified aluminium chloride, where the modified aluminium chloride has formula AlCl3-xFx, in which x ranges from approximately 1.0 to approximately 2.8 or modified aluminium bromide, where the modified aluminium bromide has formula AlBr3-yFy, in which y ranges from approximately 2.7 to 2.95. During the process, the catalyst is first fed into a reaction vessel and then partially fluorinated methane is fed into the reaction vessel.
