FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for catalytic pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate wastes to obtain benzoic acid. The method involves heating a mixture of crushed polyethylene terephthalate wastes and a catalyst, condensation of the formed benzoic acid and subsequent extraction thereof. Heating is carried out at atmospheric pressure without access to atmospheric oxygen at temperature 250-350°C for 1 hour 20 minutes.
