The method involves detaching an attachment pipe (3) of the hydrant from an extension pipe (33). A separating tool (37) is fitted on the extension pipe. An impeller (27) of the bayonet lock is cut through at a spindle ball bearing (25) which is removed. An independent claim is also included for a device for examining hydrant.
