The system has channel elements (32) attached to each other by rigid tubular connectors (42), and fixing units (46, 48) for mounting the system in a room. The connectors are insertable into an axially continuous inner channel of the channel elements, and are mountable at a wall or ceiling of the room by the fixing units. The elements are made of expanded plastic i.e. expanded polystyrene, and have a cut-away portion (62) at a front end surface, where the cut-away portion is open at contact surfaces (38) and accommodates the fixing units when the elements are axially pushed together.
