The device (1) has a lifting unit for lifting and lowering a traction element (17), and a hitch unit (13) for fastening the traction element below an adapter for hanging a cover (3) to be lifted. The hitch unit is fastened at an upper side of two support pairs (11). Two movable profiles (9) connect the support pairs with each other and exhibit L-shaped, U-shaped or rectangular-shaped cross section. The traction element has a threaded pipe whose ends are engaged with spindles and fitted with a lever arm for shortening or extending the traction element by rotation of the threaded pipe.
