The device has a clamping body (1) and clamping jaws (3, 4) that are driven by a spindle axle (5) including left- and right-hand threads (9, 10) having respective larger and smaller thread diameters moving in opposite directions, where the spindle axle is mounted in the clamping body. A spindle bearing (7) i.e. sliding bearing, arranged in proximity to a spindle drive component is provided for bearing in the clamping body. The spindle axle has a formed bearing ring (8) for positioning in the clamping body and bearing in the spindle bearing, where the body is a closed frame construction.
